I’m amazed you could get so close – perhaps you have one of those huntsman’s silent step.
These elk are probably the most studied elk in the US. The program for reintroducing them began at the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point. As for being that close, he wasn’t really bothered by me. The female with him was though, she stayed back in the brush and only stepped out for a few seconds.
