I enjoyed these photo’s, when I was almost 18 I got to go on a trip to Europe, and this was 1974, July probably and I was in Belgrade in what is now Serbia. In a park, as a memorial they had old WWII tanks, destroyed in that theater. I had a pocket camera and still have pictures of Stuarts M3 (Germans captured)some short barrel STG’s, various British, French and Italian tanks, some really rare stuff used in a lower threat theater (low threat from big tanks anyway till 1945). They are buried in a box somewhere, I have a huge collection of picture books, someday I ought to do a special blog, but I’d need a scanner to use my books and pictures as yet. Cool and fun, keep up the good work!!
I’m glad you enjoyed these photos, I guess that’s why I’m sharing them. My dad was in the Air Force at the beginning of the jet age. He has a couple of photo albums with pictures of the early jets. There’s a museum near Oshgosh that has the old jets on display and a museum near Racine that has a collection of WWII vehicles including some of the tanks.
Really enjoyed looking through your website! My father is a retired Lt. Col. from the Air Force (Meteorology) and is now traveling all over the US in their RV taking many photos along the way. His website is at http://www.wxtoad.com. Looking forward to checking back and seeing more of your photos! Thanks for sharing!
I used to drive between LaSalle/Peru Illinois and Bloomington/Normal Illinois on Route 51, before the completion of interstate 57. Somebody had an intact and fully painted F86 jet in his yard and it’s the little oddities like that that can be so neat to spot?
Geoff: Your father has an interesting site. You should let him know that the sign they saw in the upper peninsula isn’t spelled wrong. They should have stopped and tried a one of those homemade “pasties”!
dummidumwit: I remember that jet. I’ve driven passed it a hundred times at least. That was when 51 was the only north-south route through this part of the country. Building I-39 turned a seven hour drive from my hometown to Bloomington into a five hour drive.
Oh ya, I forgot, I knew you were a native hah!!Now I remember.
