Mallards

The Yahara River flows through Madison and fills the lakes in the area.

Lake Mendota, Lake Monona, Lake Waubesa and Lake Kegonsa formed when glaciers, during the ice age, gouged out the lakes and filled them with water when the ice melted.

The Yahara River connects those lakes.

A channel remains mostly open throughout winter.

South of Lake Kegonsa the channel is home to ducks of several kinds, geese and other water fowl.
