Female Spider

A 100-400 telephoto zoom lens doesn’t really work well for macro photography.

This spider was about the size of a nickel.

Cedar Waxwings Foraging

With the annual deer hunting season in full swing and me not owning any orange hunter’s clothing, I’m unable to go hiking.  So here are some photos of Cedar Waxwings taken in September.

Their colors aren’t as bright as in early spring.

Red-Tailed Hawk

I have been trying to get a decent photo of this incredibly shy creature since last Spring, and, while I’m not entirely happy with these shots, with Winter closing in these may be as good as I’m going to get this year.  He’s gotten less shy with me as I stumble around the park trying to get shots of him and the other animals, but he has a comfort zone and when I enter it, he flies away.

He’s ever watchful of me while I try to get his picture.

Which prevents him from hunting and brings me to a perplexing morality issue.  I just want to take his photo, and he needs to hunt to survive.  My disturbing him is preventing him from hunting because he’s watching me, so my taking his picture threatens his survival.
