Sandhill Cranes

Shooting at dusk on a cloudy day usually doesn’t yield the best photos of animals.  Every little movement by the animal gets picked up by the camera and transforms into a blurry picture.  I had stepped out of the tree-line onto the prairie and immediately noticed a pair of Sandhill Cranes.

While I tried to figure out how to get closer, so I could bring out the orange colored eyes of the birds, a third Sandhill Crane buzzed the field and the other two birds.  These two disappeared while I tried to take photos of the third one in the air.  I’m not going to force you to look at those pictures.

The third one walked from its landing spot toward where the other two had been.  I tried to maneuver closer for a better shot, and it tried to walk away.

Eventually it took off and I realized I had missed another opportunity to catch a close-up shot of these birds.  They’ll probably hang around here for another week or so.  Maybe next weekend.
