White-tailed Deer: Blondee

Last Spring I took some photos of a young deer still with her Winter coat.  She has a very thick coat of blonde fur.  Here’s a photo from last year.

She may have been a yearling last year, but more than likely a two year old.  With the thick coat of blonde fur she’s easy to distinguish from the other deer.  Thursday, I managed to get very close to the deer.  They didn’t panic or run away and Blondee was among them.

Here’s Blondee this year.

She let me take several pictures of her.

Seems she’s gone and gotten herself pregnant.  That makes at least two of the eight or so adult females that are pregnant.

Deer have two layers of fur during Winter.  Their Summer coat which is reddish brown in color and a top coat of thick grayish-brown fur.  Blondee’s second thicker coat looks blonde.  She has part of the top coat scraped away, which allows a pretty good look at how thick her fur gets.

I had a similar sighting a few weeks ago but mine was even more blonde and not quite as shaggy. Only came in a few times to feed, have not seen since. Would send a picture if I knew how to do that on this media. If you email me I can send the picture, see what you think!
