White-tailed Deer: Always There

I had mentioned to my father, during a recent conversation, that I hear them [deer] before I see them.  He seemed surprised by that, but he also understands that they are always there.  When I first set my sights on taking deer photos, he told me that most people walk right passed them without seeing them.  His advice, slow down because they’re always there.

So every now and then while I’m walking through the woods or a park, I’ll stop and look around.  Usually, there won’t be any deer.  In the picture below, I had set myself up in a spot I knew deer would funnel through while attempting to get away from the tourists.  I had been there less than a minute and decided to look around, that’s when I noticed this doe laid down in the grass, quietly watching me.  She had been there the whole time I had walked back into the spot and set up, which had taken about ten to fifteen minutes.
