Male Cardinal

While watching the lake the other night, a pair of Cardinals, male and female, flew around behind me.  I heard them flitting through the bushes before I saw them, and then only saw the female after they decided to fly away.  The female is better camouflaged then the male and the male tends to make himself more visible, sitting on branches out in the open while the female stayed lower and in deeper cover.

The result was I got a few nice shots of the male.

Great photos. These birds are native to where i live and i must say that they are one of my favourite birds. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for the compliment. Small birds are fun to try to shoot. Cardinals won’t, usually, get as close as this one.

Thank you…in the wild red colors translate to animal eyesight as the same hue as green, making these guys difficult for predators to spot.

I didn’t know that about the hue…good info and nice photos ~ what a combo.
