Brats and Eagles

Headed over to a friend’s house today to visit with his dad – his wife passed away last weekend.  We grilled some brats, ate and went for a walk.  A short walk – about half a mile – through some small-town streets, out the edge of town and onto a snowmobile trail.  We didn’t have long to walk and we soon were all pointing and saying, “Oh yeah, I see it!”  I managed to get close enough and the Eagle stayed long enough so I could get a few photos.  Here’s one of them.

Whitetail Deer: Shedding

The deer I photographed yesterday show signs of shedding their winter coats.  Deer grow a second thicker coat of fur for protection against the cold during fall, and shed that second coat during spring.

Patches appear where the coats have begun shedding.

Whitetail Deer: Herding

20110414_16a

Whitetail Deer gather in herds during the fall and winter for protection.  Within the next few weeks the does will stake out territory and have their young.  Until then I am able to get nice groups shots.

Surest Sign of Spring

I’ve been seeing Robins for several weeks now.  A welcome sight because it means winter has ended.

Urbanized Deer

Here’s a picture of a Whitetail Deer peeking at me from behind a pile of old garbage cans and other miscellaneous junk behind the park ranger’s house.
